Top Sausage Companies Merge

Musk’s, Newmarket’s leading sausage company and holder of two Royal Warrants, has acquired the business of D.White Butchers & The Braughing Sausage Company, makers of Braughing Sausages.

Chris Sheen, Managing Director, said “This is a major opportunity for us to spread our wings into Hertfordshire, alongside such a well known sausage as Braughing. They will really compliment our range and enable us to offer our customers the alternative of another great product”

Richard White, the vendor and son of Braughing’s founder, who is staying with the Group said “We were looking for a good home for our sausages and who better than Musk’s with their long tradition in sausage-making and their quality brand? It is an ideal match and both companies will benefit from the merger! Perhaps Her Majesty might even try our sausages!!” The merger firmly establishes Musk’s as a leading producer of premium sausages.

Investors in People. Musk's were very pleased to be told that they had gained an Investor in People award. Jill Parrott, Human Resources Manager said "After our recipe, which is very special, our staff are our most important asset. Without them we couldn't make our sausages and we try to engender a family atmosphere within the Company. The award recognises this fact."

December 2004

Musk's of Newmarket are proud to announce that they have been granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment from Her Majesty the Queen for the supply of Musk's Newmarket sausages.

Said Chris Sheen, Managing Director, "This is a real honour and a great thrill coming at the end of our 120th.year. No one has been making them for that long! Musk's currently hold the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's Warrant and in the past have held Warrants from King George V and Edward, Prince of Wales. Being the original Newmarket sausage makers this just underlines the quality and consistency of our product throughout this time. We are the only sausage company in the country to have been so honoured having supplied many generations of the Royal Family".

Eric Tennant, who has been supporting the company over the last few years, added "My customers have come to enjoy a high quality product and this is a well deserved accolade!"

Christmas Chipolatas win a silver award from the Guild of Fine Food Retailers

In only their first competition the new Christmas recipe chipolatas have won a silver award. The recipe, containing chestnuts, cranberries and other seasonal ingredients, are new on the market and already a winner. As an accompaniment to the traditional turkey they are proving popular. Gold Award for the Original Newmarket Sausages

We are delighted to announce that the Original sausages have won another Gold Award from the Guild of Fine Food Retailers. These prestigious awards are proof, if proof were needed, that the quality of our product remains as good as ever. When we last entered the sausages in 2002 we were similarly rewarded and backs up Gold Awards for the Gluten-free and Pork and Leek varieties in 2001.

Musk's Achieves Highest Standards

Musk's, makers of the original Newmarket sausage, have been awarded EFSIS higher level accreditation for the running, hygiene and general standards within its factory. This is an European standard awarded to companies who can prove their manufacturing process is maintained to the highest standards.

Says Chris Sheen, Managing Director, "We are delighted with this accolade, we have been working hard towards this award and it is an achievement for a small company such as ourselves. It really underpins the quality of the sausage we make. Being a premium sausage we have to perform all the time, and although they wouldn't have had such high hygiene standards in 1884, I am certain the texture and flavour would be absolutely the same and James Musk would have been proud."

Great Taste Awards 2002 - Another accolade for Musk's!

Musk's, the late Queen Mother's sausage maker, have received a gold award for their original Newmarket sausage from the Guild of Fine Food Retailers. These awards are seen as the Oscars of the food industry and are jointly sponsored by the Guild and Fortnum and Mason. Awards from the Guild are highly prized and only when an entry in a particular category meets their high standard is a medal awarded. This gives assurance to consumers that products from these companies are, without doubt, of the highest possible quality.
Chris Sheen, Managing Director of Musk's, said "We are delighted to receive this prestigious accolade. After last year, when both our Gluten Free and Pork and Leek sausages were similarly recognised, this means we now have the hat trick!" He added "This is an added bonus for the trade as customers can be assured of buying the best sausage."

Musk's sausages are available at Eric Tennant's butchers in the Rookery, Newmarket.
